A TELLAROUND is a story circle where listeners hear awesome tales and tellers share stories. First-timers, experienced tellers and listeners are welcome!
The narratives shared from memory may be personal stories, family tales, folktales, comedy, tragedy, mystery, romance, science fiction, historical -fiction or nonfiction, legend, or fantasy.

Suggested time for your tale: 4 to 7 minutes, with a maximum of 10 minutes.
The only "rules": be considerate of your listeners and the tale must be told, not read.

Alberta Storytellers here in Edmonton meet to share tales at monthly Tell-Arounds, on the second Tuesday of each month at the Idylwylde library, from 7 until 8:45 pm. All are welcome, to share a story, or to listen to stories told aloud.

Edmonton’s Kathy Jessup is known across Canada for her compelling storytelling and her skill at imparting her knowledge of both the oral and written storytelling arts. Kathy presents and offers workshops at storytelling conferences, retreats, and concerts; at libraries, teachers’ conventions, professional development days, and  literacy events;  and is invited to speak at engagements for a variety of organizations. Kathy has published storytelling CDs, articles in a variety of magazines, and has contributed to anthologies.

The 2025 World Storytelling Day theme is deep water. Rachel Glessing, naturalist and Alberta ‘s 2024-25 Emerging Storyteller will share her mystical story of water intrinsic to fenlands.
Rachel’s performance will be followed by a TellAround where audience members can share short their own deep water stories (suggested length 4-6 minute).

Come travel with Pearl-Ann as she takes you on her exploits where she discovers that "Home is really where her story begins!"  Sometimes the worst experiences make the best stories ... or so she tries to tell herself as she goes through them.  Just as Irma Bombeck said, "There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humour and hurt."  Three Apples Fell ... In My Backyard and Beyond is a collection of stories that Pearl-Ann has either lived through or researched in her family or community.

 Pearl-Ann Gooding has been telling stories and recognized professionally since 1995 both provincially and nationally.

World Storytelling Day – Building Bridges

StorySwap Canada, our new National online Storytelling event, is open to everyone with ears to hear, and a story to tell. The story swap is a weekly event, hosted each Sunday afternoon throughout the year by different regions of Canada. The first of each month will be hosted by Bethany and a co-host/technician.

As we learn to live with Covid 19, much of storytelling is reverting back to in-person telling. But what happens to the online community which has flourished over the past few years?

In the interest of keeping and growing the connections, friendships and community that has developed online in Canada, a group has come together and organized StorySwap Canada. This group of volunteers consists of storytellers from almost every Canadian region. We welcome Canadian storytellers as well as those from all over the world.
We are supported by Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada.
