About Storytelling Alberta
Storytelling Alberta is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that celebrates and promotes the ancient tradition of oral storytelling. Storytellers deliver stories learned by heart. The oral story comes alive through the teller’s voice, facial expressions and gestures. The listeners actively create the images of the story in their imagination. The magic of oral storytelling lies in the interaction among story, teller and listener. Each telling is unique because each element is transformed by the other two.
Storytellers tell in all genres including personal stories, literary adaptations, epics, folktales, historical narratives, wonder tales, and many more. Storytellers tell wherever people gather: festivals, schools, libraries, museums, hospitals, seniors’ lodges, places of worship, and more. We also teach others the fine art of storytelling through mentorships, workshops, professional development sessions and keynote presentations on a full range of storytelling topics.

Storytelling Alberta turned 40 in 2022!
All through 2022, Storytelling Alberta provided a platform for people to celebrate 40 years of amazing stories by Albertans and our friends from across Canada. To mark this amazing achievement, we created a library of amazing storytelling videos for the enjoyment of all…
THURSDAYS: Around the World in 40 Tales Any Storytelling Alberta member, (past or present) was invited to gift us a 5 to 10-minute story originating anywhere in the world- from the Prairies to the Alps to the Serengeti. We livestreamed these stories on our Facebook page and tracked the story locations by pinpoints on a world map. You can find them all here.
StoryShare: Storytelling Alberta Celebrates Seniors’ Stories
TUESDAYS: Tribute Tales As part of Storytelling Alberta's 40th anniversary celebrations in 2022, storyteller and long-time S.A. member, Kathy Jessup, curated a collection of "Tribute Tales" from people who have connected with Storytelling Alberta (formerly TALES) over the decades. We uploaded a new story every Tuesday at 10 am, and now they can all be enjoyed by clicking here.
Storytelling Alberta (Calgary Chapter) launched a new initiative on May 4, 2020 to bring story performances to Calgary seniors where they live and to hear their stories in return. For more information, click here: StoryShare.
StoryShare has recorded stories by Calgary and area seniors. Check them out here: Legacy Project.
We will continue to connect Albertans through story. Contact us! We’d love to hear from you.
